For Natomas Unified, Graduation Week began today (May 23) with a celebration honoring the promotion of four students from the Natomas High School Adult Transitions Program, which teaches basic living skills such as riding buses and counting money to adults overcoming mental or physical challenges.

Hats off to graduates Jeremiah Eddins, Christina Castillo, Jaime Garcia and Mathew Chavez. All have passed a state test qualifying them to obtain food-handling jobs in cafeterias, restaurants or snack bars.

Joel Schwieger, who heads the Adult Transitions Program, hosted today's celebration at his Woodland ranch. He also personally bought and presented a watch to each of the four graduates. Fay Thompson also presented the graduates with a token of appreciation -- a "goody bag" of small items -- from her employer, Wells Fargo.

Willie Jennings, an instructional assistant in the class, told the students and their parents that graduates of the Adult Transitions Program can do anything they set their mind on -- they just need a little push, he said, smiling.

Attendees included Natomas Unified Trustee Lisa Kaplan, Natomas High School Principal Mark Beebe, and Carol Williams, NUSD executive director for Special Education and Student Services.

Icing on a cake at today's celebration read, "On to the Next Chapter ... If You Can Dream It, You Can Become It. Celebrate You!" ... Pretty much says it all, no? Congratulations!
