The five-member Board of Trustees looked the same at Wednesday's public meeting, but in fact, much had changed.

Scott Dosick was elected president, succeeding Sue Heredia, who had wielded the gavel for two years.

Incumbents Lisa Kaplan and Teri Burns were sworn into office for new four-year terms after defeating two challengers in the November election.

By now, the duo may have the oath memorized, word for word: Kaplan has served on the Board since 2002, Burns even longer -- 29 years.

In comments at Wednesday's Board meeting, Kaplan said she enjoys the job, appreciates voters' faith in her, and is pleased with the direction NUSD is headed.

"I have just as much passion now as when I started," she said.

Dosick will be backed up by Burns as Board vice president and Kaplan as clerk.
