For Leslie Sargent, it was déjà vu all over again.

As Leroy Greene Academy’s new principal, Mrs. Sargent held a Meet-and-Greet Tuesday night and quickly informed spectators that she’s no stranger to the site.

Turns out that when she first came to Natomas Unified, in 2002, Mrs. Sargent taught 6th grade math in summer school at the West River Drive location where Leroy Greene Academy, a district-operated charter school, was launched several years ago.

Mrs. Sargent later taught at Natomas High School, served as principal and vice principal at Inderkum High School, and spent the past five years as principal of Two Rivers Elementary, located only several blocks from LGA.

“I couldn’t be more proud to be the principal at LGA,” Mrs. Sargent told the crowd of several dozen parents Tuesday. “It’s going to be an amazing year.”

The new principal said her goal is to ensure that all students learn and achieve at high levels, preparing them for college and career. She noted there will be numerous new and welcome additions to LGA this year, including:

  • Fifteen new teachers
  • Sixth-graders attending the campus – as they will other middle schools – as part of a district decision designed to accommodate future enrollment growth throughout Natomas Unified
  • An expanded sports program
  • A new counselor to help prepare students for college and career readiness and to provide social-emotional support
  • Elective classes in psychology, public speaking, digital photography and journalism

Parents interviewed after the Meet-and-Greet applauded Mrs. Sargent’s selection as LGA leader.

“She seems real good, excited, I think she’s going to be a good principal,” said Mirna Alvarez. “She gives good vibes. She seems to know what she’s doing.”

Wendy Eisenbeisz smiled. “I know her from Two Rivers – and she’s going to be fabulous,” she said.
