Inderkum High School Principal Heather Garcia’s leadership team benefited from two key actions June 25 by the Board of Trustees, which approved the promotion of Dan Motherspaw to co-principal and the hiring of Gloria White as an assistant principal.

Motherspaw, a longtime Inderkum Tiger, served as an assistant principal at the campus last year. Gloria White comes to Natomas Unified from Sacramento Charter High School. Here is how Principal Garcia explained to Inderkum families the campus roles that she, Motherspaw and White will fill in the coming school year:

“In support of our NUSD Vision, Core Beliefs, Commitments and Goals, Mr. Motherspaw will share Principal leadership responsibility in the areas of program and facility management, daily school site operation and security, community leadership, and campus culture, as well as the monitoring of our instructional program and student achievement.  Mr. Motherspaw is excited to expand his leadership role and continue Inderkum’s work to ensure all students graduate as college and career ready.

“Heather Garcia will continue in the role of Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership and Support/International Baccalaureate and as Inderkum’s Head of School/Principal, responsible for leadership and oversight of Inderkum’s instructional program and our connection to the community.  In 2014-15, Heather will focus additional time and resources toward the broader support of the K-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate and Diploma programs. Mrs. Garcia is thrilled to bring together capable and committed leaders ready to meet the needs of our students, staff and community.

“Gloria White will serve as an Assistant Principal alongside Scott Pitts.  Mrs. White comes to Inderkum from Sacramento Charter High School, where she has worked for over 10 years as an English teacher, academic counselor and assistant principal. Her focus is, and always has been, to ensure that all students have access to college pathways and outstanding educational opportunities.  With an eye to socio-emotional as well as academic development, she is passionate about developing a strong counseling program, diverse and meaningful elective pathways, and supporting strong athletic programs and school safety. Mrs. White looks forward to joining the Inderkum team and working to support and develop the Tigers of the future.”
