NUSD Trustee Teri Burns tackled the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Aug. 28 -- and the challenge won ... :o) ... Though dripping wet from the ice-cold bucket of water dumped on her head, Burns was smiling afterward, pleased to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and to go a step further by donating money for research. Burns chose Natomas Gateways Middle School as the site for Principal Marnie Lynch to provide her chilly shower. Burns noted the new middle school provides an academic path for students interested in health careers. She challenged students to study hard so that someday maybe they can find a cure for the "painful and difficult" ALS.
