NATOMAS – Offering a strong slate of academic choices and programs, Natomas Unified School District this week began enrolling new or transfer students for the 2014-15 school year.

Prospective students can obtain enrollment packets or get questions answered through the district’s campuses, website – www.natomasunified.org – or by calling its Ed Center at 561-5288.

Natomas Unified was one of 22 California districts recognized by the College Board last year as an Advanced Placement Honor Roll District for increasing access to AP courses while maintaining or improving satisfactory performance in such classes.

Two of Natomas’ elementary schools. Jefferson and Two Rivers, topped Sacramento County last year in one-year growth on the Academic Performance Index, a measure of student performance used by the state last year to rank campuses.

The district’s latest move is to develop a new middle school next year on the campus of Natomas High School, aiding students in transitioning from junior high to high school while offering a strong academic program in both.

Located several miles north of downtown Sacramento, the Natomas district prides itself on helping students achieve college and career readiness. It provides a variety of classroom options and exceptional programs, including:

  • All-day kindergarten at all elementary schools
  • Elementary Gifted and Talented Education, with a growing number of students and expanded teacher training
  • International Baccalaureate candidate programmes at H. Allen Hight Elementary, Natomas Middle School and Inderkum High School.
  • New career-based programs in Culinary Arts and Auto Technology.
  • An emerging Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program that has received local and state accolades for its robotics.
    • Incorporating 21st century technology into classrooms through implementation of Common Core State Standards.

Besides Jefferson and Two Rivers, the Natomas district operates American Lakes, Bannon Creek, H. Allen Hight, Witter Ranch and Natomas Park Elementary schools; Heron School for K-8 students; Natomas Middle School; Inderkum, Natomas and Discovery high schools; and Leroy F. Greene Academy, a charter school for seventh- through ninth-graders. Its new middle school will open next year.
