Dear Natomas Community:

 We want to inform you that a small number of students at two local schools recently have been affected by Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease, a viral illness that affects mainly infants and children.  Parents at those two schools have been notified.

 The virus is transmitted by direct contact, and symptoms can include fever, rash, mouth sores, loss of appetite, and sore throat.  Please do not send children to school who display any of these symptoms.

 Natomas Unified School District is taking the following actions to limit the spread of the virus at schools under our control:

  • disinfecting common areas, bathrooms, and classrooms;
  • providing additional hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes; and
  • reminding students about the importance of hand washing.

 You can help by reminding children to wash their hands and to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze.  If a family member is experiencing these symptoms, please contact a medical provider.

Respectfully,

Cecil Duke
