M

Good Evening Staff, Families and Stakeholders:

After seven months of stakeholder input and data analysis, Natomas Unified's Board of Trustees approved five new long-term goals tonight:

1)   Increase student success in ELA, math, science, and literacy

2)   Prepare students to be college and career ready

3)   Engage parents and families to support student success in school

4)   Create safe and welcoming learning environments where students attend and are connected to their schools

5)   Recruit, hire, train, and retain high quality staff who are committed, collaborative, caring and exemplary

About 18 months ago NUSD adopted temporary goals to help us set a path to growth, stability and improvement.  Those four goals helped our district grow through programs like full-day Kindergarten, International Baccalaureate, and the rapid implementation of technology in our schools. They also played a significant role in Natomas Unified's return to the highest budget certification allowed in California and to the county’s largest K-12 academic gains on last year's state assessment.

I am excited to think about what we can accomplish together as we implement our five new goals.  We will utilize what we call a Cycle of Continuous Learning and Improvement to take new actions, measure our successes, and analyze where our results did not meet desired expectations.  With our budget improving, we will be able to add new actions for students, compensate our employees more, and add to our growing list of new supports for our students.  We won't be able to fund all things we all would like to see in place.  However, more support, increasing communication and new actions for our students are on the way.

It continues to be an exciting time in Natomas Unified.  We remain committed to our vision that,  “All NUSD students graduate as college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.”

Sincerely,

Chris Evans

Superintendent
