Congratulations to Natomas High School senior Luis Jimenez, new student representative on the Board of Trustees. Luis was administered the oath of office by Board President Sue Heredia during a public meeting Oct. 8 at Inderkum High School.

Luis is president of Natomas High School's Senior Class and its Latinos Unidos club. He also is vice president of the campus Book Club and leader of a Link Crew, which helps freshmen adjust to high school. Luis is bilingual, an honor student, and played on Natomas High's tennis team last year.

A student Trustee plays an essential role by casting a preferential vote on the Board, -- a vote that may not make or break a Board decision but counts as a symbol of student opinion and concern. Only a handful of student board members in California have a preferential vote.

Luis's service as a student Trustee may set the stage for a future political career: He is weighing the possibility of running for elective office someday. Meanwhile, he vows to be an active voice for students on the Board of Trustees.

Welcome aboard, Luis.
