Leslie Sargent will transfer from leading Two Rivers Elementary School to become the new principal at the Leroy Greene Academy campus just a few blocks away, inheriting a student body with a large number of familiar faces she has led in years past.  This is a well-deserved promotion for Mrs. Sargent.

Leroy Greene Academy’s new principal is a veteran school administrator who led her campus to a California Distinguished School Award last year and has a track record of engaging and empowering parents.

“Leslie Sargent is a collaborative, talented leader who gets results,” Supt. Chris Evans said. “Her success with the Two Rivers staff and community is a precursor to even more success at LGA. We’re excited to have her at LGA.”

Two Rivers made headlines under Sargent in 2013 by recording one of California’s highest single-year increases in the Academic Performance Index, the yardstick by which schools were ranked and measured in years past. Two Rivers’ API score jumped 67 points.

Under Sargent’s leadership, Two Rivers’ community launched an after-school enrichment program that attracts hundreds of kids for classes such as keyboard typing, Google documents, chess, flag football, art, creative writing, drama and dance.

The California Department of Education honored Two Rivers last year as one of the state’s most exemplary and inspiring schools by selecting it as a California Distinguished School.  The annual award spotlights innovative campuses that are closing the achievement gap while providing educational excellence to all students.

Sargent, as a veteran elementary school principal and former high school educator, has served a wide age range of K-12 students – from the youngest to the oldest. That flexibility should serve her well at LGA, a charter campus that will house 6th graders through graduating seniors by 2016-2017.  Meet and greet events will be planned this summer for LGA parents and staff to spend some time with Mrs. Sargent.  Mrs. Sargent is a resident of Natomas and has students who attend Natomas Unified schools.

The efforts to hire a talented principal at Two Rivers have already started. Two Rivers is an excellent school and top talented leaders will definitely be interested.
