Natomas Unified’s Teachers of the Year were honored by the Board of Trustees at its public meeting Wednesday (Sept. 10).

Michael McKibbon, of Inderkum High School, was recognized as District Teacher of the Year, with 11 others taking top honors for their school.

Site Teachers of the Year were Amanda Connelly, American Lakes; Juliane Link-Oberstar, Bannon Creek School; Yvonne Arnold, Discovery High School; Andrea Mitchell, H. Allen Hight Elementary; Michael Turner, Heron School; Brenda Honath, Jefferson School; Lan Lawrence Orr, Natomas Park Elementary; Andrea Leon, Natomas Middle School; Kim Taxara, Natomas High School; Joann Day, Two Rivers Elementary; and Erin Calhoun, Witter Ranch Elementary.

Assistant Superintendent Doug Orr kicked off the Board ceremony by welcoming Sacramento Assemblyman Roger Dickinson, who awarded each honoree a certificate. The NUSD Board presented plaques to the winners, who were introduced by their principal.

“As you may know, our Board of Trustees and District are committed to ensuring that all NUSD students will graduate as college and career ready, productive, responsible and engaged global citizens,” Orr told Trustees and a packed house of spectators Wednesday.

“Each of the teachers being recognized tonight has been selected as an exemplary teacher who ensures that every student will learn and succeed – one of our Core Beliefs. Each has contributed to the growth and success of Natomas Unified and I am honored to formally acknowledge each of them.”
