Inderkum High School’s band has something new to toot its horn about – a Top-20 ranking statewide.

Award-winning performances by the Tigers’ Marching Band and Color Guard in numerous competitions this fall has sparked a ranking of 5th overall in Northern California and 17th overall statewide,  Inderkum band teacher Shawn Hines announced Nov. 21st.

The musical success comes on the heels of an outstanding football season in which the Tigers are 9-2 as they brace for battle with Vanden High School of Fairfield in a Division III semifinal playoff clash at Inderkum Nov. 22.

Hines, in a letter announcing his band’s state ranking, thanked parents, friends, district staff and other supporters for volunteering to do everything from sewing flags to fundraising and cleaning uniforms to keep his program thriving.

“Your help makes a difference,” Hines wrote. “In this day and age of many things to do and too little time in which to do them, your commitment is extra special. By finding time to assist, you have made a powerful statement supporting out students’ participation in the program. Your presence affirms that you are proud of Inderkum Music and what we are doing.”

Inderkum’s state ranking was propelled by separate first-place finishes by the band and color guard at Northern California Band Association Championships (NCBA); a second-place finish by the band at the Grape Bowl Classic; and third-place finishes by the band at the Del Oro Band Review and by the drum major at the NCBA Championships.
