Launching Inderkum High School’s commencement ceremony tonight, Principal Heather Garcia told the crowd that four years ago, these nearly 350 students had made a pledge to graduate together -- and they'd kept that promise.

“You have matured, you’ve gained new knowledge and skill and you’ve made the experiences of high school matter in your life plan,” Garcia told the Class of 2015.

“You have learned valuable lessons and have built a foundation for your future,” she said. “‘College and Career Success Starts Here’ was your motto.”

Garcia urged the Inderkum Tiger graduates to keep learning and achieving – start with a plan, then be responsible, be prepared, be on time, and believe in yourself, she said.

Garcia commended the Class of 2015 for reaching out to their community with more than 10,500 hours of volunteer service through Senior Projects.

Faculty speaker Melissa Mathews expanded upon the students’ commitment, saying they had responded to what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once called life’s most persistent and urgent question: “What are you doing for others?”

The Class of 2015 volunteered at Salvation Army, Loaves and Fishes, Ronald McDonald House, UC Davis Medical Center, the YMCA, Club Live, Friends of the River, North Natomas Library – Mathews' list went on and on, covering nearly every walk of life and corner of the community.

“I’m here to say one thing,” Mathews said. “We’re so proud of you.”

Salutatorians Sadaf Arshad, Samantha Ignacio and Noah Santo Domingo touched upon highlights of  their senior year, ranging from football games to prom, homecoming dance, Senior Sunrise, and a senior trip to Disneyland.

“We’ve all really grown to be one happy Tiger family,” Sadaf said.

“There isn’t a single jungle out there that hasn’t been touched by our Tiger paw,” added Noah.

Valedictorian Lavneet Dhillon told the Class of 2015 that “our lives really are just beginning” and she recalled a famous quote that noted, “The greatest rewards come from doing things that scare you the most.”

“I mean it when I say I wouldn’t want to graduate with any other group of people,” Lavneet said.

More than 115 of the graduates already have been accepted into four-year colleges and universities.

Congratulations, Class of 2015.
