Student Spotlight

Dylan Potter’s teacher calls him a perfect example of what a Witter Ranch student should be: respectful, hard-working, courteous, kind

One of the second-grader’s favorite things is to “be nice to people.”

“When they don’t know how to spell the word, I can help them,” Dylan said of his attitude toward classmates.

Dylan hopes to parlay that thoughtfulness into a career someday. He wants to be a teacher – kindergarten, perhaps.

“I want to be a teacher so I can teach kids, so they can learn stuff,” he said simply.

Dylan’s teacher, Ana Reilly, calls the 8-year-old a perfect example of what a Witter Ranch student should be. “He is always ready to work, always shows respect to others, and gives every academic assignment his best effort.”

The teacher added that she uses Dylan as a role model for other students. “Dylan loves school and he shows it,” she said. “He participates in class and is always ready to contribute during team assignments. He is an amazing student! I am very proud of him and feel privileged to be his teacher.”

Dylan’s favorite subject is reading, but he also likes to write and draw, he said. When he’s not in school, the second-grader enjoys soccer – “I play every position” – and board games. He also likes to watch the “Iron Man” animated television series.

Asked to describe himself, Dylan used a single word: “Happy.”

What advice would he give to other students? The 8-year-old didn’t hesitate. “Listen to your teacher,” he said.

Dylan can take advice as well as give it, however. Something his parents once told him has stuck in his head as a darn good idea.

“Always do your best,” he said.
