About Principal Holtemann…..
Ms. Suzen K. Holtemann couldn’t be more excited to continue to serve as the principal at American Lakes School and to be part of this wonderful community. In her words, “When I discovered American Lakes Elementary, I knew I’d found a special place.” From the talented staff, to the involved parents, to the committed community, Ms. Holtemann immediately recognized American Lakes as one of Natomas’ most unique neighborhood schools. Having always prioritized partnerships with families and communities, joining the American Lakes School community is a natural fit for her.
Prior to accepting the principalship at the beginning of last year, 2012-13, Ms. Holtemann began her journey in education in 1997. She joined Sacramento City Unified School District where she began her teaching career and later joined the administrative team. After 11 years with SCUSD , Ms. Holtemann left to join Winters Joint Unified School District. There she served as an elementary principal and director of the Winters state preschool for five years. In these roles, Ms. Holtemann prioritized student academic and social development by working closely with staff to create warm, engaging, and robust learning environments.
As a former classroom teacher, Ms. Holtemann has a deep appreciation for students’ cognitive and social-emotional development and is eager to continue supporting our teachers as they collaborate with each other to prepare all American Lakes students for our best high schools and colleges.
When Ms. Holtemann isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
