Meet Elijah Baza Huerta, seventh-grade student at American Lakes School and 2nd place winner of the 2020 Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest presented by the Sacramento Region’s MLK Celebration Committee and Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE). Encouraged by his Teacher, Mrs. Connelly, Elijah submitted a 300-word essay on what he does to help others and the ways he reminds others of MLK’s legacy and profound impact.
