Site work under way at Natomas High

And so it begins …

Earth-moving crews carving out a vacant piece of land near Natomas High School have officially launched NUSD’s Building and Construction Trades Pathway project, with building construction scheduled to begin this spring.

The multimillion-dollar project is creating a home for an exciting addition to NUSD’s Career Technical Education program that will prepare students for jobs in the construction industry and related trades.

Once grading, soil treating, utility installation and other site work is completed, construction can begin on the pathway’s 4,600-square-foot classroom building, plus a large covered outdoor work space.

Plans call for building construction to begin in May and be completed this summer, with furnishings to be installed before classes start in August.

Students from throughout the district can enroll in the new Building and Construction Trades Pathway at Natomas High. An informational flyer is available here.

Classes will cover numerous types of construction-related careers, ranging from carpentry to welding, electrical, drywall, masonry, HVAC – heating, ventilating, air conditioning – and more.

Participating students will prepare for college, too, by taking core academic classes —  including English, History, Science and Math.

The Building and Construction Trades pathway will give students the opportunity to learn applied mathematics for construction, blueprint reading, financial literacy, history of construction, green construction and technology, and how to interview effectively.

Classes offered by the pathway will feature hands-on, project-based lessons.

NUSD also is planning a second new pathway next year, Public Safety, to be located at Inderkum High School. Construction has not yet begun on that project, but pathway details are available here
