It’s a gift that will keep on giving.

In time for the new school year, which starts tomorrow, 75 Natomas Unified students will receive backpacks filled with school supplies that were donated today by Anthem United Homes, builders of “Willow at Natomas Meadows,” located on Juneberry Drive.

In a brief ceremony today, Anthem United presented the backpacks to NUSD official Amreek Singh at the district Ed Center. The packs, for students of all ages, came filled with paper, markers, binders, and other school supplies.

“We like to give back to the communities we build homes in,” said Matt Gustus, Director of Operations for the firm.

Singh said the backpacks are much appreciated and will be put to good use throughout the school year. They’re vital to students carrying books and supplies from class to class, or from school to home.

“This donation of backpacks and school supplies will help us serve some of our most vulnerable students,” Singh said. “These students will be able to come to school prepared to learn and succeed, on track to be college and career ready.”

Simply by caring enough to help, Anthem United is sending a powerful message to NUSD families, Singh said.

“It’s validation that it takes a community to raise a child,” he added. “Our parents and families see that there are many people in our community who care about them and want them to succeed.”

Gustus said the pleasure is Anthem United’s, adding, “It’s an honor to be able to serve and help out.”
