Dear Bannon Creek students, families, and community members,
I want to officially welcome all of you to the 2018-2019 school year! We have been very busy throughout our campus this summer preparing for the coming year! I am privileged to have the opportunity to return this school year as your principal and I feel honored to work with our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our wonderful students, and all of the supportive parents at Bannon Creek School.
We are excited to announce that Bannon Creek continues expanding to a K-8 school! We’re entering the 2nd of 3 phases, meaning that we will offer K-7 this year, then full K-8 in 2019-2020. Plans call for Bannon Creek students to have additional new classrooms, a new gymnasium with locker rooms, and a specialized academic focus, Dual Immersion. The gymnasium would provide better service to our school and community partners through our facilities use process. You will see Positive Behavioral Intervention & Support strategies in place to support a positive student culture, too (Beaver CALL tickets, Student Store, Posters, Planners, Painted Ball Walls). This is a very exciting time for Bannon Creek staff, students, parents and the community!
This summer our teachers have attended Professional Development trainings and are prepared to implement many new strategies to differentiate instruction by reviewing student data to increase students’ academic achievement. This will support our school’s focus to backward map/lesson design using unit assessments as a starting point. Our teachers have been working hard in preparing their classrooms and lesson plans, which promises to make for an exciting, productive and innovating year at Bannon Creek. Home and school communication is very important. Please continue to review our website, calendars, teacher newsletters, Infinite Campus Parent Portal, and Sunday night phone announcements for the most accurate information about our school. In addition, there are several other ways to become involved in the Bannon Creek community. Joining the PTA is an opportunity to meet other parents and teachers, to build rapport, and to develop relationships. School Site Council is a group of teachers, parents, and classified employees who work with me to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. We also have a school-wide Safety Team and an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) for parents and other community members who want to advocate for English Learners.
I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming year and welcoming our families back to campus. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 8th. School will begin each day at 7:45 a.m. for all students. Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten dismissal time is 1:38 p.m., 1st-6th grades will dismiss at 1:55 p.m., and 7th grade will dismiss at 2:30 p.m. Traffic is always more congested during the first weeks of school. Please remember to leave home early enough to drive slowly on and around campus, and use the drop-off area or pull over to the curb when dropping off or picking up your student.
Our office will be open starting 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 1. Thereafter, operating hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. In addition, please see the following important upcoming events/dates:
7th Grade Student/Parent Orientation, Tuesday, July 31, from 9-10 a.m., in the Multipurpose Room. 7th grade students will learn important information to support transition to middle school. This meeting is mandatory for 7th grade students/families.
Parent Orientation, Tuesday, July 31st, from 5-6 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room/Cafeteria. You will receive important information about our school to help your child have a successful school year.
- Welcome Back Dinner, Tuesday, July 31st, from 6-7 p.m. Taco Trucks will be available in our quad area for purchasing dinner after the Parent Orientation.
- Parent Orientation, Wednesday, August 1, from 9-10 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room/Cafeteria. This is another opportunity to receive important information about our school to help your child have a successful school year.
- Class Lists Posted. Friday, August 3, at 4 p.m. in the Bannon Creek Main Office Window.
- First Day of School. Wednesday, August 8th, at 7:45am. Breakfast will begin at 7:15am.
- Back to School Night. Wednesday, August 29th, from 6:30-8 p.m.
