Board of Trustees recognizes school staffs that make International Baccalaureate program effective

--- Published on September 30th 2016 ---

NUSD’s International Baccalaureate program depends upon staff to lead, serve and inspire students, preparing them for college and career. Recognizing that, Trustees honored employees of the District’s three IB schools at the Sept. 28 Board meeting. Here is how Assistant Supt. Angela Herrera introduced staff members who attended from H. Allen Hight Elementary, Natomas MIddle, and Inderkum High schools:

Tonight, it is with great pride that we are celebrating the authorization of three IB World Schools in our district: H. Allen Hight Elementary School, Natomas Middle School, and Inderkum High School.

As we reflect, Iderkum High School was authorized for the IB Diploma Programme in February, 2014 for students in grades 11 and 12. It feels like yeseterday. In fact, our first class of IB Diploma Programme students graduated last spring. In January, Inderkum High School and Natomas Middle School received authorization for the IB Middle Years Programme for students in grades 6 – 10.  In April, H. Allen Hight received authorization for the IB Primary Years Programme for students TK – 5.

To the Board, we appreciate your unwavering support throughout this journey. Tonight it’s with thanks that we recognize the dedication and hard work of teachers and staff. Natomas Unified is the first district in the region to offer IB from TK-12, allowing our students access to the internationally renowned Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Diploma Programme.

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring students who create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding, and the rigor of IB provides a challenging academic framework to support our students to become college and career ready.

This would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of teachers, administrators, and staff, and tonight, we would like to celebrate the tremendous accomplishment of these three IB World Schools. Many thanks to the support of our families and community as well.
