CJ Moua had no idea what was about to happen when he was called into Supt. Chris Evans’ office on the pretext that he was needed immediately to fix a computer problem Monday (Jan. 25).

Surprise!

Moua, an IT specialist, was told that he is Natomas Unified’s Classified Employee of the Year.

Though he has worked for NUSD less than two years, he has impressed many people in a short period of time, Evans said. Moua’s job is to keep laptops, desktop computers, iPads and other technology equipment in good repair in the Ed Center and Staff Development Center.

“For me, it was jaw-dropping,” Moua said later about his selection as Classified Employee of the Year. “I was elated. I didn’t know what to say. Wow!”

In nominating papers for the award, however, others had plenty to say about him – complimenting both his technical skills and attitude.

“He is efficient and competent,” said Director Angela Herrera, his former supervisor. “But even better, he provides excellent customer service with a friendly, approachable attitude that makes people feel comfortable in possibly a stressful moment.”

Dolly McClellan, Executive Assistant to Supt. Chris Evans, described Moua as “always upbeat, positive and understanding,” and as an excellent example of a “committed, collaborative, caring and exemplary employee.”

“He quickly finds solutions and then follows-up to ensure that the solutions worked,” McClellan said. “CJ takes pride in his work and a job well done. In addition, he enjoys working on special projects, assisting the engineers and technicians at the schools.”

Added Pat Hargreaves, Administrative Assistant in School Leadership and Support: “When new employees start, CJ is often the first touch with the technology department. His positive attitude and willingness to make things go as smoothly as possible are always appreciated.”

As Natomas Unified’s Classified Employee of the Year, Moua now will be considered for countywide honors.
