In response to a Sacramento Police Department announcement this morning (Jan. 20), Natomas Unified is releasing the following statement to the community:

Natomas Unified has been notified that Heron School teacher Scott MacMillan was arrested on a felony charge of attempted possession of obscene matter of a minor and a misdemeanor charge of photographing or videoing a person under their clothing without consent.

Mr. MacMillan was suspended by the District on Dec. 22 after allegations were brought forward by students that he used a phone to take inappropriate photos involving specific, clothed parts of female students’ bodies.

Since the day of his suspension, he has not taught at any of our schools and NUSD recently launched dismissal proceedings. Heron School families have been sent two communications about this matter.

Protection of students is paramount, and our teachers are notified each year about appropriate behavior around students. Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated. Situations like this one do not represent the overall exemplary behavior and actions taken by the vast majority of our staff every day and we are sorry this is affecting our community.

We cannot comment further on specifics of this case. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement, as necessary. If you have questions or relevant information, contact NUSD Constituent and Customer Services at (916) 561-5253.
