BRIANA CAMILLE JONES

High School Attended: Inderkum — Class of 2009

Other NUSD Schools Attended: Natomas Park Elementary School, Natomas Middle School

College Attended – Degree Obtained: UCLA, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science

Current College or Career: Final year at University of San Francisco in both a Juris Doctor program (law degree) and in a Master’s degree program for Business Administration

“Directly after my college graduation in 2013, I began my law school journey. I wanted to see how legislation was interpreted by the courts and applied to citizens. Two years into my law school career, I decided to enroll in a dual degree program to get my graduate business degree. I wanted to have a better understanding of how the different pieces of a business successfully work together, and I wanted to have the tools to eventually run my own company. Now that I am in my final year of both degrees, I am also working as a law clerk for the San Jose Sharks as well as O’Donnell Wall Brooks LLP to gain practical experience in the legal field. In both placements, I conduct legal research for my supervising attorneys, draft contracts and documents for clients/business partners, and provide support for the team.”

Q: How would you complete this sentence? NUSD was good for me because …

A: “…the teachers truly cared about my success and provided encouragement at every step of the way with my education.”

Q: How did an NUSD education help prepare you for college or career?

A: “It provided me with a strong foundation by pushing me to be a great student while also encouraging me to be an active participant in school activities; multi-tasking and learning how to balance multiple commitments were crucial to my success in college.”

Q: What advice would you give to current students?

A: “Take the time to think about your goals and create your plan to accomplish them. Take advantage of opportunities to develop as an individual and utilize the resources in your schools/communities to further work toward your goals. Push yourselves to be the hardest-working students and advocates. All of the skills developed throughout your journey are tools for success — and you can do this.”

Q: Favorite memory from NUSD?

A: “My favorite memory from school was participating in Culture Night at Inderkum High School; being able to share and learn about other cultures and traditions was exciting. As one of the most diverse communities, Natomas is special. Through Culture Night, NUSD demonstrated its commitment to celebrating and embracing students’ differences while also bringing students together for a night of fun and enlightenment.”

Q: Future goals?

A: “My future goals are to pass the California Bar and become a practicing corporate law or estate planning attorney in the Bay Area/Sacramento. Additionally, I want to be a resource to students who are trying to figure out their next steps in life and provide mentorship for those who are putting together their action plan for life.”

NUSD’S BOARD-APPROVED VISION: “All NUSD students graduate as college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.”
