Solidifying his standing as one of the nation’s elite high school football players, Inderkum High’s Josh Falo was honored at a campus ceremony today for his selection to the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game, an annual showcase for college and pro scouts.

The All-America battle will be played on New Year’s Day at the Orlando Citrus Bowl in Florida. ESPN will televise the game live. At today’s Inderkum ceremony (Sept. 26), representatives of the all-star game announced Falo’s selection and presented him with a commemorative jersey and cap.

“It’s an opportunity to show what I can – and that’s what I’m waiting to do,” said Falo, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound senior who hopes to play pro football someday but is committed to getting a college education first. He’s working hard toward that, carrying a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Inderkum.

Falo, a tight end and outside linebacker for the Tigers, has gotten scholarship offers from some of the nation’s top football teams. He said he has narrowed the field to 11 finalists: Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, and Ohio State.

Falo said his selection to the All-America football game is particularly gratifying because he has worked hard to make himself a better student-athlete. Talent alone won’t get the job done, he said. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

Falo comes from a long line of football talent. Both his brothers starred at Inderkum. The eldest, Nate, later played for San Jose State. Brother NJ received a scholarship last year to play for the University of Colorado.

Falo’s mother, Becca, sat next to him at today’s Inderkum ceremony and said she felt grateful to see her youngest child’s dreams come true. “I know that his brothers and sister really pushed him hard (to excel,)” she said.

Since its inception in 2008, the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game has featured one player who later won the Heisman Trophy, Jameis Winston, and 126 players who later were drafted by the NFL – including 31 first-round draft picks.

Inderkum Football Coach Terry Stark described Falo as a worthy pick for the All-America game: an exceptionally hard worker, very coachable, respectful, and a team leader in ensuring other players do the right thing and get the job done on the field.

“He’s exceptional,” Stark said. “He’s going to do well wherever he goes.”
