The key word is choice.

Natomas Unified middle and high schools offer a variety of unique programs and academic pathways for students to consider when choosing a campus to attend. We want students to enroll in a school that best fits their individual needs.

To spotlight the academic options and answer your questions, NUSD will hold a “Secondary Schools Showcase Night” from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the District’s Staff Development Center, 1931 Arena Blvd.

Officials from Inderkum High can tout the school’s rigorous International Baccalaureate academic program, its Broadcast and Media Arts course, its award-winning music program, and its California Early College Academy Program (CECA) that enables high school students to take college classes at American River College.

Natomas HIgh School offers a prestigious AP Capstone diploma program that allows students to earn college credits while acquiring vital critical thinking and analytical skills. Nighthawk Nation also is known for its popular Drum Corps, and for its academic pathways in Engineering and Health. The latter includes an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course that enables graduates to test for certification as EMTs.

Among MIddle Schools, Natomas Middle School has an IB Middle Years Programme — a partnership with Inderkum — that offers challenging academic courses, promotes 21st century analytical thinking skills, and fosters community involvement by requiring students to participate in service learning. Natomas Gateways MIddle School provides a robust robotics program encompassing both design and creation. Leroy Greene Academy, the district’s only dependent charter school, serves students from 6th grade through high school and offers pathways in Visual Arts/Technology and Business/Marketing.

At “Secondary Schools Showcase NIght,” parents and students can wander from table to table, each representing a middle or high school, to hear about options such as band, music, drama, culinary arts, tutoring, sports, and after-school programs. The goal is to showcase what makes each campus special.

All parents and guardians are invited to attend, but the Dec. 8 event was designed particularly for families of 5th- and 8th-graders who are trying to decide which secondary school to attend next year. More information is available in the flyer posted below.
