We call it “Building Our Future,” an up-close and personal look at how Natomas Unified is enhancing facilities to create new 21st century learning opportunities. Please take a look.

Project by project, school after school, we’ve tackled key priorities of our Facilities Master Plan the past three  years, benefiting students throughout Natomas.

Through the end of the year, we’ll target one success story per week — beginning next week — in short videos that will zero in on key NUSD construction and renovation projects that are providing valuable resources for students now and will continue doing so for decades to come.

Collectively, two new schools have been built, two-story classroom buildings have been added to some existing schools, Career Technical Education facilities have been upgraded, technology has been enhanced, and student safety and security has been increased.

Projects completed over the past few years, consistent with our Facilities Master Plan, include:

·        Two-story classroom buildings at Bannon Creek School and Natomas Park Elementary School, which enhanced the look, feel and learning opportunities at the two schools. The projects also enhanced classroom technology and enabled outdated portable classrooms to be removed.

·        New campuses for Westlake and Natomas Charter School Star Academy. Westlake students previously were split between two campuses, and Star Academy operated in a commercial building on East Commerce Way. A third independent charter school, NP3, is adding a new two-story, 20-classroom building to its existing grounds.

·        Valuable enhancements to Heron School’s focus on STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Six new classrooms were built, along  with two science labs and a video production studio.

·        Bigger and better facilities for Culinary Arts instruction at Discovery High School. Its teaching and demonstration kitchen was expanded and refurnished. Indoor and outdoor dining areas were built to enable food service and allow students to practice restaurant hospitality.

·        Vital renovation of numerous existing structures, including conversion of a library into a “Center for Innovation” at Leroy Greene Academy, enhancing and refurbishing Two Rivers Elementary School’s library, and improving Career Technical Education facilities at Inderkum and Natomas High schools.

With construction booming in Natomas, the district anticipates a bright future and is preparing for thousands of new students over the next 10 years. NUSD’s Board of Trustees recently updated the Facilities Master Plan to identify key priorities in years ahead.

We encourage you to check out the Facilities Master Plan by clicking here. We thank you for your support of NUSD schools. And we hope you enjoy the coming series of “Building Our Future” videos. We’re proud that our success stories will benefit your kids and our community.
