NUSD Staff, Parents and Stakeholders:
This is an important message about a change by the California Public Utilities Commission that will soon affect calling within the 916 area code to residents, businesses, and other entities – including Natomas Unified schools and offices.
Beginning Saturday (Feb. 10), anyone calling from the 916 area code must dial 1 + area code + telephone number. If this new procedure is not followed, calls will not get through. Remember: First 1, then area code, then 7-digit number.
The change stems from a decision by the public utilities commission to overlay a new area code, 279, within the geographic area currently served by 916.
Calls to 911, 211, 311, and several other special services will not be affected. More information is available on the public utilities website. Thank you very much.
