Welcome to Preschool! My name is Karen Coughlin.  I have been the Lead Preschool Teacher at American Lakes School Readiness since 2010. I LOVE working with his age group and we learn through our experiences everyday. I enjoy singing with my students and don't mind acting silly! I am married with 2 children who have graduated from NUSD and are in college now!  My son plays football and my daughter is a waterpolo player.  So that is where I spend most of my time when I'm not here at school. I also love to swim for exercise and relaxation. If there anything you want to know about me or my classroom, please ask.

This preschool year is such an important time for social/emotional growth and discovery. As well, our Language & Literacy,  Math, and Handwriting Programs are well designed to meet the variety of needs our students have. There will be so much growth, personally and academically this year... I'm excited to be leading your students.

Welcome to Preschool!

Welcome to Preschool! I am so happy to have you join my class. This preschool year is a very important one for you and your student. A life-long love for learning starts now! We emphasize not only academic readiness but just as important, the social and emotional readiness and competence needed for school. We use a variety of strategies when teaching...hands on experiences, manipulation of objects, trial and error, direct instruction (large and small group), rhythm and rhyme, body movement, sensory exploration and discovery play...to name a few.

Preschool at American Lakes utilizes many supportive programs and tools throughout the year with our students.

Get Set For School includes:

Language and Literacy, Math and Numbers and Handwriting: Get Set for School/Handwriting Without Tears

Social and Emotional Development:Center for Social Emotional Foundations of Early Learning-West Ed.  Teaching Pyramid Family Resources

Please make sure to read  posts from Class Dojo and my emailed Newsletters.  These are some of the main ways I get information to you! This will include curriculum updates, planned projects and goals, upcoming events and classroom needs.

Ask any questions you may have. I want you to feel like you are connected to what we do everyday and how your child is progressing in class.
