NUSD Families,

Based on some school sites having limited or no classroom space due to the social distancing requirements of the pandemic, the Natomas Unified School District Board of Trustees in a 3-2 vote approved two motions:

  • The first motion kept a very limited number of Day Camps open at 5 sites – Witter Ranch, Natomas Park, Heron, Bannon Creek, and at Paso Verde when they move to the permanent site.
  • The second motion allowed a transition from our current virtual grant-funded after-school programs to open in-person at American Lakes School, Bannon Creek School, Jefferson School.

Families already enrolled in Day Camps at those sites as of February 22, 2021, will have the opportunity to be considered for continued enrollment; however, due to limited space, it will not necessarily be available to all currently enrolled Day Camp students and will have a priority for working families and students who need additional supports. The sites noted above will be contacting currently enrolled families to provide more specific information such as their interest in enrolling at their site, the requirements for families if a student is going to enroll, and the day camp schedule.

The Board’s approval to permit the three after-school programs at American Lakes, Bannon Creek, and Jefferson School is to provide after V-school care to students returning to in-person learning. Students currently enrolled in the ASES after-school program, who have been participating virtually this past school year, will now have the opportunity to join in-person on their in-person instruction cohort days if they choose to do so. Students in Distance Learning will also be able to continue participating virtually on their distance learning days. Each site will contact the families currently enrolled in the program to provide more specific information.

Because students will be grouped in these programs, in some cases, from multiple classrooms/grade levels, parents will be required to follow program guidelines that will include providing consent for their student to be routinely COVID tested as an added measure of safety during their participation in the day camp or after-school program.

Once again, more information will be communicated from the specific sites.
