Have fun and help kids -- what could be better than that?

The annual Natomas Duck Pluck Festival will offer a smorgasbord of family fun  from 11 a. m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Inderkum High School sports fields, 2500 New Market Dr., Sacramento. Admission is free.

The sixth annual festival will feature food, music, dance, arts, entertainment, and dozens of booths offering carnival games for kids. Flyers about the Duck Pluck and its companion fun run are posted below.

A highlight of the festival every year is the Duck Pluck raffle, offering ticketholders a 600-t0-1 chance of winning up to $10,000. A second prize of $2,500 and a third prize of $1,000 also will be awarded. Tickets are $100 apiece, available at all NUSD schools. Residents also may sign up at campuses to split the cost of a ticket with others.

The nonprofit Natomas Schools Foundation sponsors the Duck Pluck Festival, and proceeds are used for scholarships and arts, athletic and academic programs benefiting students at charter and non-charter schools within  Natomas Unified boundaries.

To warm up for the festivities, come a little early and participate in the "Almost 5K Duck Pluck Fun Run," which will start at 10 a.m. at Inderkum High. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., or participants can register in advance at natomasschoolsfoundation.org. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 18. Both individuals and teams are welcome. The run is sponsored by the NUSD Health and Wellness Committee. All money raised will be used to benefit students.
