NUSD Families,

As you know, we have been not only focused on ending the 2019-20 school year, but planning for the start of our 2020-21 school year. While there are many things at the national, state, and local level that still have questions marks, we have been addressing these challenges through our Six Pillars:

  • Eliminating the Digital Divide
  • Providing Families Educational Options
  • Expanding Physical Health and Safety of Students and Staff
  • Expanding Emotional Health and Safety of Students and Staff
  • Feeding Our Students
  • Creating a Culture of Connectivity in a New School Environment

We are doing our best right now to understand what education may look like for your children this fall while using guidance from our county in light of the pandemic.

We understand the uncertainty families may be feeling about returning students to a traditional in-class education in the fall, and it’s our job to identify ways that families and students can continue to be engaged with their school(s) while choosing an educational option that will work best for their family.

In light of that, we need you to make some initial parental choices for your student. Natomas Unified is trying to keep students’ instructional minutes and days as whole as possible and give families options while keeping students safe. For example, a class of 24 students may have 16 students in class every day, socially distanced with 8 students enrolled in a hybrid option that allows 4 of them to come in one week, and the other 4 the other week. There would be 24 students in a class, but no more than 20 in a room at a time. In these unique times, we are being thoughtful and deliberate. We also need to plan. As such, we have 3 options for you to consider in this survey.

It is important to know that regardless of the options you mark today in the survey below:

  • You and your student will still be a part of your school and school community.  For example, if you are a Natomas High School incoming freshman and choose Independent Study, you get an ID card that says Natomas High Nighthawks. You are a full NHS student.
  • Likewise, if you are enrolled at Witter Ranch Hawks and would like the hybrid option, you are a Witter student and parent and can engage in all activities as desired, virtual or otherwise.
  • And finally, we will swing back by one more time and ask you for your “final answer” in early July.

Please take a few minutes to answer the questions in this survey, and we will continue to provide communication as we learn more and make decisions for NUSD with your input.
