Good news to share! Last night, the Natomas Unified School District Board of Education approved a variety of items in support of student’s academic, physical and social emotional wellbeing and in support of the work and commitment of staff to our families. As an integral member of the Natomas Unified community, we wanted to share with you some of the highlights from the June 23, 2021, board meeting. Feel free to watch the video or review the agenda if you wish to see the list in its entirety.

Highlights of Board Approvals

Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)

  • Every three years, we are required to develop an LCAP that is aligned with our vision and goals and that reflects the interest of our school community – students, parents, staff, and community members. We are pleased to share that the Board approved the 2021-2024 plan that addresses our focus on supporting student achievement, equity for all students, parent supports/resources, professional development for staff, and our response to the pandemic with increased support in academics, social-emotional well-being, and health/wellness. District’s Budget for 2021-2022

  • The Board approved the 2021-2022 District Budget that supports the LCAP and includes several one-time federal and state dollars to help the District open safely and recover from the impact of the pandemic on student’s learning disruption. In addition to our District being able to fund the necessary supports outlined in the LCAP and Budget, we are pleased to share that we continue to be fiscally solvent.

Collaborations with our Labor Partners

  • One thing that became very apparent to our families and those outside of education during the pandemic is that our teachers and support staff are rockstars! From the beginning of the pandemic, our team stepped up, worked outside their familiar areas, and did what was necessary to educate and support our students. In support of their commitment and to ensure the district stays competitive to retain and recruit staff, the Board approved 2% salary increase for all staff members and a one-time $1,000 stipend for members of NTA and CSEA Chapter 745, for being flexible and committed throughout this entire pandemic to help keep the District running, our families and students supported, and our schools and facilities safe.
  • Through our continued collaboration with CSEA, the District will provide $200 annually for specific classifications in the Maintenance and Grounds Department to purchase and maintain safety boots as a layer of protection against a variety of workplace hazards.
  • As an incentive for classified employees to apply and work summer school or summer feeding, the Board approved an agreement to pay them two times their standard pay. This was critical to ensure that we had coverage to meet the needs of our students during our summer programs.

Continued Movement of Construction and Modernization Projects

  • We continue to move forward with making necessary improvements to our facilities and the development of new construction to support the growing Natomas community. Last night, the Board took action on two resolutions that are required to continue our path forward with the building of the Heredia-Arriaga School, our K-5 Dual Immersion School that will be located on the east end of Club Center Drive in North Natomas and the construction of a two field softball complex, located on land across from Inderkum High School. The District is also committed to addressing the fields at Natomas High School. As soon as we are able to determine issues with a well with the city, we will address the field there as well.

We have much to celebrate in Natomas and more work to do. It’s important that we take the time to celebrate and reflect on our successes while continually moving forward with opportunities, resources, and supports that benefit our students.
