Happy Friday everyone! As soon as we can get someone in place, we are going to pilot a crossing guard at the corner of Kokomo Drive and North Park Drive. I wish we could put crossing guards at multiple sites in multiple locations, but financially, that’s not a reality in California’s school funding model .
We encourage parents to work together and create crossing guards or other similar school support programs. This has been tried on and off for years at Hight. And we appreciate the effort and energy to get those started. For some reason, those efforts have not developed deep roots.
While I cannot promise this pilot will be a permanent fix, we are willing to give this a try. In part, we will assess does this improve traffic by the school? Will it help more students get to school on time? Is there less adult tension as pedestrians and cars back up traffic for blocks and blocks. These are the questions that we will use to measure success. We will get something up and running as soon as we can get someone identified.
