Dear Hight Families,
Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year! My name is Jason Manviller and it is my privilege to continue serving as elementary principal at H. Allen Hight Elementary, which is an International Baccalaureate School offering the Primary Years Programme. I am proud to be part of an exceptional team of educators, secretaries, and custodians that make H. Allen Hight Elementary a wonderful place for students socially and academically. I am a southern California native and attended the University of Southern California- Fight On! I was an elementary teacher for 10 years in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade prior to becoming an administrator.
Hight is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and our concept-based instruction promotes critical thinking and considering multiple perspectives. This translates into a rigorous classroom education for your child. Visit the International Baccalaureate website to learn more.
In addition to being an International Baccalaureate school, we also practice Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) practices, which supports students by providing clear expectations and rewards for positive behavior.
I want to thank the students, parents, and teachers for your willingness to collaborate to support student learning and a school we can all be proud of. As the school year starts, I look forward to opportunities to hear from you and to learn about your student. You may see a survey, an invitation to coffee with the principal, or catch me on campus to say hello. Parents are encouraged to be active partners with us in supporting our students’ education. Some of the ways parents can participate is by becoming involved in our Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council (SSC), or our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Teachers will also share ways parents can be involved and provide support specific to the classroom.
As we all know we are in the middle of some very trying times that are affecting everyone. NUSD and H. Allen Hight’s top priority is the safety and continued education of our students. Distance learning will be different from how it was delivered in the spring of 2020. Teachers will be providing no less than 3 hours of interactive, real-time virtual instruction to students daily. Students will also have time to work independently on their assignments and opportunities for social emotional learning activities to connect them to school.
- Elementary Class Assignments will be provided to families no later than August 21.
- First day of school: Thursday, August 27th.
- Start times: TK-5th grade @ 8:00 a.m.
- Daily Distance Learning Schedule: Will be shared by teachers and posted to our school website prior to August 27
I look forward to our continued partnership for the success of our Hight Cheetahs!
