Inderkum High School Band Teacher and students

The Inderkum Tigers have much to celebrate this holiday season! Over the Thanksgiving Break, the Tiger Marching Band and Color Guard clinched a variety of awards, including 1st place in their division and Sweepstakes in Overall Showmanship. All of this took place at the Fairfield Tournament of Champions for the NCBA Finals where they also were awarded 2nd overall for the whole day, and Color Guard Sweepstakes for Best Parade Color Guard. “I am extremely proud of our students.  It’s not about the trophies but about the experience. They get to experience being a family and part of a team that excels at a high level,” says, Band Conductor Shawn Hines. “That’s how it was for me in high school – memories that I will always cherish.”

When Hines joined the Inderkum family as the Band Conductor back in 2008, he remembers starting with a mere 13 students. Today, he has 115 band and color guard members. “I look at the program as if it was a child. It’s been a joy to watch the program and students grow and be at the level of where they are today.” Hines has been able to grow the program with the support of the school community and with Inderkum’s other Band Conductor Jemaline Agpalza-Hines. The last name is not a coincidence; it’s a family affair. “Yes, we are husband and wife. We both love music and helping students go beyond their potential. That shared energy is what brought us together.”

That energy has led the Tigers to multiple wins throughout this season of performances where they have repeatedly placed 1st and 2nd in a variety of categories. Congratulations on a job well done!
