IHS Class of 2021 IB Diploma or Certificates students

In 2021, 140 outstanding Inderkum High School students fulfilled their IB commitments, including 40 who are IB Diploma Candidates – a new Inderkum record! “The class of 2021 had our best results ever for IB. We had a 90% pass rate for the students attempting diplomas and a huge number of kids who earned passing scores on their certificates. To say they did that despite all the challenges, it’s just extra kudos for them,” explains Jessica Downing, IB Diploma Programme Coordinator.

Downing presented the diplomas and certificates on campus last week in a special ceremony. Approximately 50 students, plus parents of some who already moved to college campuses were there to accept the diplomas or certificates, some of which we got to speak to about the programme. “It’s very rigorous, and doing this is tougher than a lot of AP classes,” explained Sage Neal. One parent was there to pick up the diploma for her son Patrick Zimmermann. “It really represents my son’s hard work for the last three years. He’s at college right now on the east coast, but I’m going to get in the car and send him a picture.”

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a two-year course of study designed to create disciplined, responsible and well-rounded graduates by requiring advanced study in English, mathematics, a world language, history, social science, natural science, and either art of a qualifying elective in science or social science.

NUSD continues to seek opportunities to expand its IB programs. The district currently has Primary Years Programmes (PYPs) at H. Allen Hight Elementary and Paso Verde School with three K-8 schools (American Lakes, Bannon Creek, and Jefferson) in candidacy, as well as Middle Years Programmes (MYPs) at Natomas High School, Inderkum High School, and Paso Verde School.
