Principal’s Corner

Inderkum High School Principal Dan Motherspaw

Hello Tiger Families,

I am excited to continue to serve as your Proud Principal for the coming school year.  Inderkum has been my home for 16 years, and I am so proud to see how, with your support, Inderkum continues to grow and evolve to provide quality programs to prepare all of our students to be college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens. Last year was filled with amazing successes, despite some unprecedented challenges.  Inderkum was honored by U.S. News and World Report with a Best High Schools Award.  More students completed their a-g university requirements than ever before and our seniors were excited to receive college acceptances from all over the country, including our very first Harvard acceptance!  More students were awarded the California State Seal of Biliteracy than ever before, with 112 seniors showing fluency in both English and another language.  Four students actually showed fluency in three languages.  How’s that for Worldliness?

I can’t wait to watch our students’ achievements continue to grow in the coming year.  I would like to thank all of our families for choosing to send your students to Inderkum to receive a quality education and achieve at such high levels.  You are all essential to the success of our school.   We look forward to helping all of our students realize their inner GROWL to realize their potential and become the best people they can be.   Parents and students, I encourage you to get involved in our school programs,  join our organizations like clubs, teams, PTSA, and Boosters, and attend our social and athletic events.  Being connected to campus life is proven to improve success!

I hope that you have had a restful summer and are just as ready as we are to have an excellent 2020-2021 school year!  It’s hard to believe, but the first day of school is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to continue our collaboration with you in developing graduates that are college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.  School this year will look a little bit different, due to the COVID pandemic, but we are dedicated to providing educational options that work for all students and families.

Throughout the school year, please find important school information through our website and Infinite Campus.  Should you need additional help, please feel free to contact our virtual school office.

For returning families, you know that we have typically held a Priority Fall Check-In the week before school begins.  In an effort to maintain social distancing during this pandemic, we will not be having a traditional Priority Fall Check-In.  This year, we will be communicating processes for submitting any needed document digitally.  We are working on expanding our ability to purchase items from the Student Store online so that items can be picked up once school starts.  Textbook distribution will occur during the first weeks of school as well.

Additionally, our annual Link Crew celebration will look a little bit different this year.  We will communicate to freshmen and their families with more details in the coming weeks so that we can continue our practice of establishing important connections before the school year starts.  This will also include a welcome for our new freshmen parents.

We look forward to another successful school year together, as we focus on building and assessing our students’ academic and interpersonal skills.  If you have any questions about our school, programs, or expectations, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
