In World History you will develop a greater understanding of the evolution of global processes and contacts including interactions over time. The course highlights the nature of changes in international frameworks and their causes and consequences as well as comparisons among other societies. The course will give a broad overview of World Religions and Ancient/Medieval influences over the modern world. The course will then emphasize modern history from 1500 to the present.

There is a final exam at the end of the semester.

HOMEWORK

It is my goal/desire that you do your main textbook reading at home leaving us class time to read other supplemental materials and primary sources, view informative videos and do group work, note taking and essay writing.

POLICY ON LATEWORK

Students will have 5 days to turn in assignment after the assignment is due. 10 percent will be deducted from the assignment each day it is late.

If the student is absent on the day the assignment is due they are to turn in the assignment when they return.

EXTRA CREDIT IS GIVEN OUT ONCE PER SEMESTER

REQUIRED MATERIAL

1 three ring binder or two-pocket folder dedicated for this course alone.

Loose-leaf paper or paper from a note book.

Pens in any color except RED

Highlighters – yellow, pink, green, blue, orange (for readings and vocabulary)

TARDY CELL PHONE AND CUT POLICY

It is the student’s responsibility to be in the classroom on time. All students get 7 free tardies per semester. On the 8th tardy the student will lose notes for any test or quiz. Each tardy after the 8th the student will notes for test and quizzes. If a student is tardy on a regular bases a parent conference will be scheduled to solve the problem.

The policy for cell phones is all phones need to be put away once the late bell rings. Students are given 7 warnings to put cell phone away. After the 8th warning the student will lose notes for any test or quiz. Each warning after the 8th the student will lose more notes for test and quizzes.

Any student that cuts my class will lose notes on all quizzes/tests.

BATHROOM POLICY

Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom the first 15 minutes or the last 15 minutes of the period. Students are given one bathroom pass per week. Students that do not use the bathroom will get a homework/classwork pass every 6 weeks. This card will give the student a 100% on any assignment in the future or if they got a zero for a pass assignment.

RULES

  1. Be in your seat when the second bell rings. Students not regularly in their seats will be marked tardy.
  2. If you are tardy go right to your seat. (if you have a reason you were tardy then see teacher after class)
  3. Do not interrupt someone when they are speaking, show them the respect you would want if you were speaking.
  4. To be dismissed from class you need to be in your seat and quiet.
  5. No food and only drinks that have a top on it.
  6. Do not disrupt the learning environment at any time.
  7. Questions about grades, No class time will be given to discuss a problem with a grade.

The best way to discuss this with me is through e-mail or by making an appointment with me. I am usually in my room during 2nd lunch. I will work with you to get a better grade. We need to use time in class wisely.

My office hours are before school (I’m usually at school by 7:30 AM).

You can always schedule a time to meet if the office hours are inconvenient.
