Assessment/CFU
KWL Chart:
Review chart and have students reflect about what they learned throughout the Beetle/Amazing Insect lessons. Chart in Column 3. W.K.2, W.K.8
KWL Extension Discussion:
After KWL Chart sharing and recording, ask students to discuss HOW they learned what they learned: Ask if they learned by observing, reading, listening, speaking/listening, drawing, or analyzing. Seek diverse responses and emphasize that we all learn through multiple experiences in different ways.
Fascinating Fact Article:
Students may choose to use classroom resources, journals, wall charts, and experiences to discuss with a partner all they have learned during lessons about Amazing Insects. Ask them each to select ONE different Fascinating Fact that each student will write about. This writing will be revised and edited and placed in a class book called, Fascinating Facts About Insects. This book will be completed before the end of the year and displayed at Open House.
Opening/Warmup/Connecting Prior Knowledge
Insect Hunt:
Use the sketch book or science/insect journals from the Observation Walk (Day 1) for the Insect Hunt. Students use magnifying glasses and clear plastic cups to walk the campus to collect and temporarily observe insects. Before Insect Hunt, pose open-ended questions to elicit descriptions, student discussions, and observational responses.
