- If a student between the ages of 6 and 18 accumulates three absences (of more than 30 minutes per absence) without a valid excuse in one school year, the school must document a phone call to the student’s parent or guardian and notify the student’s parent or guardian by notice required in Education Code Section 48260.5.(Truancy Letter #1). This letter will be mailed out through the ATTEND Program following the students’ third absence without a valid excuse. For students under the age of 6, the school must document a phone call to the student’s parent or guardian regarding the importance of consistent daily attendance.
- After continued absences (3 more) without a valid excuse following Truancy letter #1, the school must document a phone call to the student’s parent or guardian and notify the student’s parent or guardian by notice (Truancy Letter #2). This letter will be mailed out through the ATTEND Program following the students’ 6th absence without a valid excuse.
- After continued absences without a valid excuse following Truancy letter #2, the student will be eligible for a SART Conference. A SART Conference should be scheduled as soon as possible using the ATTEND Program to generate and mail a SART Conference notification. At the SART meeting, a SART contract will be developed between the school and the parent or guardian.
- If the SART contract is violated (3 more unexcused absences), Truancy Letter #3 will be mailed out via the ATTEND Program.
- Following Truancy Letter #3, the school shall complete the SARB referral and send to the district SARB coordinator. This referral should be sent within 5 school days of next absence.
