Use Your District Issued IPhone/IPad as an Apple TV Remote
If you are in dire need of an Apple TV remote but can’t seem to find one, fear not, there is a solution. With newer versions of iOS, you can assign the Apple TV remote to your iPhone or iPad Command Center (which you open by swiping up from the bottom of the screen) and with older versions, there is an app available for download from the Apple App Store.
Note: These are only temporary solutions and will rarely work as well as the actual remote itself. Please do attempt to locate the remote as quickly as possible.
Method 1: Set up the Apple TV Remote in Control Center
Make sure that your iPhone or iPad is updated to the latest version of iOS. Then follow these steps to set up the Apple TV Remote in Control Center.
- Add the Apple TV Remote to Control Center. Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls and tap
next to Apple TV Remote.
- Open Control Center and tap the Apple TV Remote.
- Tap your Apple TV from the list. Then enter the four-digit passcode that appears on your Apple TV screen.
Method 2: Set up the Apple TV Remote app
Make sure that you have the latest software for your Apple TV and your iOS device.
- Download the Apple TV Remote app from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. If you already have it, check that you have the latest version. To find out, open the App Store and tap Updates.
- Connect your iOS device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV.
- Open the Apple TV Remote app on your iOS device, tap Add Apple TV, then tap your Apple TV. Don’t see it?
- On Apple TV 4K or Apple TV (4th generation), wait for a four-digit code to appear on your television. Enter this code on the pairing screen that appears on your iOS device. If the code doesn’t appear and you can control your Apple TV, your iOS device is already paired and you can start using the app.
That’s it!
