For NUSD Staff: Frequently Asked Questions surrounding the Registration and Enrollment Process:
Q: Who should I call if I am unclear about a process or have a question?
A: Please contact the enrollment team at 916-567-5819 or [email protected].
Q: When should I start entering Registration packets?
A: NOW! Please enter Registration packets as soon as they are received.
Q: When will I start Staff and Student Processing for Registration Packets?
A: August 1 and then all school year.
Q: When will we have a Registration Kiosk in our front lobby?
A: This system is still being reviewed. There are no updates at this time.
Q: Where should parents who wish to transfer from their boundary school be sending their applications?
A: Parents may drop them off at ANY School site, or the Ed Center. If an application is dropped off at your site and yours is not the Boundary School, scan the packet and put it in the Google folder of the boundary school. Follow up with an email to that school letting them know the application is there.
Q: Is RD entering paper Registration applications or ISTVs?
A: Only in the summer months when secretaries are not working. Starting August 1 and throughout the school year, RD will scan and drop the applications into the appropriate site’s google folder, and follow up with an email.
Q: What happens if a family enters an application for the incorrect school year into OLR?
A: Site staff can search in Staff Processing for the family by name and then run the Staff and Student Processing steps.
Q: What if a family, who is currently enrolled, wants to transfer to another school site during the school year?
A: Connect with your principal. The principal should communicate with the family and the Supervisor of Schools for support.
Q: When are the families going to bring their supporting documentation (birth cert, proof of res, immunizations) to the school?
A: If families have that now and bring that in now, great! Make a student folder and put those docs in. If they drop them at the Ed Center, we will scan them to your Google folder. If they drop them at a different site, that site should scan the docs and place in the receiving schools Google folder. When we are closer to the ending of each of the enrollment periods RD will send out an informational message to families who have submitted apps/ISTVs what next steps are.
Q: What do I do if a family moves out of our boundary or district and wants to remain at the school they have been attending?
A: If the family moves to another NUSD boundary, there is nothing they need to do. They can remain at the same school they have been attending. If the family moves to another district, they should complete an Intradistrict Transfer Permit (ITP) request.
Q: What do I do if the family says they do not have the original birth certificate?
A: NUSD Board Policy states families may present:
- Certified copy of birth record (birth certificate)
- Statement by the local registrar or county recorder certifying the date of birth
- Baptism certificate
- Passport
When none of the foregoing is obtainable, an affidavit of the parent, guardian, or custodian, or any other appropriate means of proving the child’s age(Education Code 48002)..
If a document other than what is listed above is presented please contact the enrollment team, 916-567-5819 to confirm.
Q: What if families enter their Registration online for a school that is not their boundary school, and an ISTV is needed?
A: RD added an ALERT to the online app directing the families to the online ISTV form. In addition, RD will be auditing the electronic apps to ensure that families who should submit an ISTV do submit an ISTV or ITP.
