With the new school year set to start soon, the Natomas Schools Foundation is releasing a list of suggested supplies for elementary and middle school students, by grade level.

The generic lists are suggestions, not requirements, that are meant to help parents by reminding them of various school supplies that are particularly useful at each grade level, since curriculum gets more complex as students get older.

The lists of suggested supplies range from items as simple as crayons in the first grade to a pocket calculator for middle school students. The lists may be updated at the beginning of the school year.

The lists were created through a partnership with Target that is generating revenue for Natomas Unified School District campuses. The lists of suggested supplies are posted below. They also are available at each campus website. Students will take home a suggested supply list for their grade level during the first week of school. Classes start Aug. 13.

Separately, Target offers a REDcard rewards program, promoted on each suggested supply list, that allows parents to donate 1 percent of their Target purchases to a K-12 school of their choice. More information is available at Target.com/REDcard.

The Natomas Schools Foundation is a nonprofit organization created to assist all schools within the boundaries of Natomas Unified School District. The group's largest fundraiser each year is the Duck Pluck Festival, held May 3 this year beside Inderkum High School. The communitys festival raised more than $18,000 for local campuses.
