Dear NHS Student and Parent/Guardian:

Your student has been enrolled into the NHS Summer School Program for 2020 and has been identified as needing summer school to earn credits for one or more courses based on one of the following reasons:

  • Student has failed one or more semester or year-long courses
  • Student is off-track for graduation
  • Student is off-track for meeting the UC/CSU A-G minimum requirements

Students are expected to make-up the needed course/s to ensure they remain on track for graduation college and career ready.  The summer program will begin June 1st following distance learning guidelines utilizing APEX, an online program that can be accessed at home utilizing Chromebooks. APEX provides the opportunity for students to engage with the curriculum at their own pace, providing videos and readings to help students understand concepts, and practice while being focused on specific curriculum. Teachers will support students with daily office hours and additional instructional videos to help master the curriculum. Teachers will routinely reach out to students and parents regarding the student’s  progress in the course. If students make significant progress and complete the course early, they will either be finished with the summer program early if they need no other courses or they can be enrolled in another course if they need more courses to remain on track for graduation.

Students identified for summer school, but do not attend, or do not pass their summer school class could be in jeopardy of not graduating or meeting the minimum college entrance requirements.

The Natomas Unified 2020 Summer School program will provide an opportunity for students to earn 5 credits per each successfully completed course/semester. Courses will be offered in the following academic areas: English, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science.

Students will be placed into courses by grade level and subject area priority. Students that are not able to take a course due to class size limitations will be placed on a waiting list and will be given the opportunity to take the course if a space becomes available. The course/s that students are enrolled in will show up in Infinite Campus for the Summer Session once enrollment has been confirmed.  Please go to the following link and complete the “Summer School 2020 Enrollment Form” by Friday, May 8. This will let us know that you are confirming your student’s enrollment in summer school.  By Friday,  May 22, families will be notified by email with confirmation of their respective students’ enrollment .

To receive course credit, students will need to actively participate in their courses. If a student does not “Attend” class or is not active within the class for a total of 2 days, the student will be dropped from the course and will not receive credit for the course.
