What is STEM?
STEM, Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics, is an interdisciplinary and applied science strand where the creation of structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes is used to learn science content. Science courses include a minimum of two core sciences (Biology and Chemistry) and two applied sciences (Physics and Engineering). The program theme is the creative application of science and technology in order to solve society’s problems, and participants will receive first-hand experiences in creating these solutions. Labs, research projects, critical thinking and analysis, and personal involvement are instructional components of each science course in this program. California science standards for Biology, Chemistry and Physics are covered. The program culminates in development of a senior portfolio and the award of the STEM Certificate at commencement.
Biomedical Science Strand (BMS)
The Biomedical Science strand, or BMS, is an interdisciplinary science program that examines the structure and function of the human body in relation to health and disease.
The engineering Strand is an interdisciplinary and applied science strand where the creation of structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes is used to learn science content.
