AP Physics 1

Physics, A Advanced Placement               10 Credits                     Grade Level:  11-12

Prerequisite:  Successful completion of Algebra II with a “B” or better and concurrent enrollment in Analysis with Trigonometry or teacher recommendation.

Meets HS Physical Science graduation requirement, CSU/UC “D” requirement.

This advanced placement course studies kinematics, dynamics, static, energy, momentum, gravitation, rotational dynamics, thermodynamics, waves and harmonic motion, optics, electrostatics, dc circuits, electromagnetism, quantum physics, atomic structure, nuclear physics, and gases.  Lab activities, computer simulations, scientific method, and writing are emphasized.  Successful candidates who pass the AP test may get up a full year of college credit at UC, Cal State and most private universities.  This course will be offered in alternating years: 2008-2009, 2010-2011, etc.

Homework:  4 hours/week.
