Assistant Principal Alana Cayabyab is joining us this year from South Lake Tahoe, California. Ms. Cayabyab taught for 5 years in a Spanish Two Way Bilingual Immersion program. She also served as Assistant Principal/EL Instructional Coach at that same site, Bijou Community School (grades K-5). This last school year, Ms. Cayabyab served as Assistant Principal at South Tahoe Middle School (grades 6-8). These two vastly diverse administrative experiences have given her a strong vertical vision of education. She looks forward to being a part of Natomas Middle School and making a positive impact at that site.
Born and raised in Modesto, California, Ms. Cayabyab is excited to return to work in an area near her hometown. Ms. Cayabyab attended San Diego State University for her Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She then participated in a binational teaching credential program, Mexico BCLAD, to earn her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Having lived in Oaxaca, Mexico, for a semester and experiencing Mexican culture firsthand, Ms. Cayabyab gained a depth of cultural understanding and an ability to relate to many of our English learners. She completed her second semester of her credential program at Sacramento State University.
Ms. Cayabyab further pursued higher education, returning to Sacramento State University for her Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, as well as her Administrative Credential. She is a practitioner and strong believer in Restorative Practices, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and building a strong school culture through positive relationships. Ms. Cayabyab is also a promoter of equity and considers herself an endless learner.
