Hello first grade families! First of all, I wanted to share that we have had almost ZERO tardies in our class over the last 2 weeks! I am appreciative of your effort to get your kids to school on time. It makes for much smoother mornings in our classroom a great start to the day for everyone. Thank you! In last week's Friday Folder, I sent home the Mid-Module 4 assessments (place value and adding two-digit numbers). The scoring rubric is attached to the back. Students who did not score a 3 or a 4 were retaught and reassessed those particular concepts. These are messy, working documents--I apologize if they are difficult to decipher! Students who did not meet standards in any area(s) will continue to receive support and/or intervention. Please let me know if you have questions. Here is your Matey Message for the week: Week of April 23rd Dental Day reminder: Our Dental Day is happening on Sunday, April 29 from 9 AM - 1 PM! If you haven't scheduled your appointment yet please call (916) 515-0005 to schedule. STEAM Fair - May 10th from 5 - 7 PM: Please join us for our inaugural STEAM Fair at NP3 Elementary. Good afternoon first grade parents! We have our field trip this Wednesday! Thanks so much for sending in permission slips. We will be back to school in time for lunch, so there is no need to do anything different that day. I was so impressed with your kids' math homework assignments last week. Thank you for helping your children with the 3-D scavenger hunt. I can tell this has helped solidify (no pun intended!) their understanding of solid shapes! Good Morning, First Grade Families! This week, we will be starting our unit in science on Objects in the Sky. This can be a great opportunity to expand your children's in-class learning with some real experiences at home...gaze at the moon, count the stars, draw pictures of the clouds...I would love for your child to share the things that they see in the sky! In ELA, we will focus on the concept of cause and effect this week. In math, we will continue our study of both shapes and place value. Check our newsletter for me details. Please turn in your signed permission slips for the 4/18 field trip as soon as possible. As I said last week, I want to give those parents who have not had the opportunity to come on a field trip first chance at chaperoning. As of now, I have 3 out of 4 spots filled. If you have not chaperoned this year and you are fingerprinted/cleared to volunteer with NUSD, and you would like to attend, please let me know by the end of today. Thank you!! Here is your Matey Message for the week: Week of April 9th New S.T.O.R.M. Classes are Now in Session: Has fear ever interfered with your success? Whether it's fear of the dark, a fear of failure, or something unique, fear can paralyze us with inaction. Coach Sim and The Special Team of Role Models will be exploring the different types of fear and what kids can do to conquer fear with confidence during our Spring Session. We are now taking registration for the final 9 week session of the school year. To sign-up visit www.stormprogram.com or call Coach Sim at (916) 541-3242. P3 Meeting this Tuesday! P3 Meeting will be held April 10th in the Library at NP3 E. Yearbook: Get your yearbook before we sell out! Dear Parents, I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend! I spent part of my weekend reading your children's reading homework from last week, and I was very impressed by their hard work! Thank you for helping them and checking their work at home. If you have any questions or if the homework load becomes too burdensome for your family, please let me know. If there were any issues or confusion with the assignments, I made notes in the homework packet. There will be NO math homework tonight! We are finishing up a mid-module assessment. Regular math homework resumes tomorrow night. I am still looking for volunteers to help with the Winter Carnival next Friday, 1/27. If you can come and work a shift and have not notified me yet, please let me know! If you cannot help that evening and would like to donate cookies or paper cups, I would greatly appreciate it. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. If you are interested in this program, registration opens on January 23rd at www.gotrsac.com. For more information, please contact Mrs. Riehl at [email protected]. We hope to run with you soon!
