About Me

For detailed information about my classes, please click here.

Originally from the East Bay, I fell in love with history as a 5th grader when I had a teacher who made the content FUN. I knew from then on I wanted pursue a career in education. Since then, I have devoted my time to working with children of all ages in a variety of environments. In 2005 I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with degrees in History and English and moved to Sacramento to further my education. In 2007 I decided it was finally time to put my passion and love of learning to use in the classroom and completed the accelerated teaching credential program at Sacramento State while student teaching at NP3. I fell in love with the students and greater community at NP3 and have been here ever since!

In my 13 years at NP3 I’ve grown as a person and a professional. I’ve gotten married to my best friend (Garret) and we’ve had three children (Jackson, McKenna, & Ryder).  Becoming a mother has helped me think more deeply about the purpose of education in our country and what I strive to do in the classroom and in life.

Inside and out of the classroom I am a very energetic and passionate individual who believes history is, by definition, just a story. Therefore, if one has the right storyteller curiosity can be sparked and the process of learning begins. I aim to be that storyteller and learning is my true mission objective. I firmly believe that learning how YOU learn effectively and constantly is the most important aspect of education – surpassing the importance of state standards, facts, or content material. Developing an academic arsenal to help guide you through this learning process is my job in both history and leadership arenas. We will always learn more when working together, therefore collaboration is a cornerstone of my classroom environment.  My expectations for students are high, but can be met with hard work, commitment, and participation. I strive to create a strong sense of community within my classroom and very much look forward to making this school year one of the best yet and continuing to develop curious lifelong learners!
