FOCUS: This week, we will be focusing on inequalities. By the end of the week, students will be able to write, graph, and solve two step inequalities given a real world situation. They will know they have done this when they plug solutions into their inequality and make a true statement. ASSIGNMENTS: Monday: Distributive Property Half Sheet. ASSESSMENTS: Formative assessment this Thursday on graphing and writing inequalities from a real world situation.

They will know they have done this when they plug solutions into their inequality and make a true statement. We are also finishing up our unit on equations and inequalities, so we will review equations! ASSIGNMENTS: Monday: Two Step Inequality Word Problems Tuesday: None! Happy Halloween! ASSESSMENTS: Practice Summative on Friday.

Week of September 5th Due: Friday September 08, 2017
Wow! We've been in school a whole month now! During that time, we've just about finished our unit on rational numbers, and we'll be finishing up this week. Our summative is approaching: we will review this week, and the summative will be next week. FOCUS: This week, we will learn our last skill: multiplying and dividing rational numbers. These will include negative and positive fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. Students will be able to extend the rules of signs they have used for integers to multiply and divide rational numbers. They will know they have done this when they have compared their result to their positive/negative diagrams to ensure they have used the correct rule and have simplified their answers. ASSIGNMENTS: Students will largely focus on review this week. Assignments TBA. ASSESSMENTS: Formative assessment this Thursday on multiplying and dividing rational numbers, with some review of adding and subtracting rational numbers. Summative assessment about operations with rational numbers will be the week after, tentatively scheduled for September 13th.

Week of August 28th Due: Friday September 01, 2017
FOCUS: This week, we will be continuing to practice adding and subtracting rational numbers, including negatives. Students will be able to rewrite a subtraction problem as an addition problem and will conceptually understand how operations with negative numbers function with fractions using strategies with number lines and rounding. ASSIGNMENTS: Monday: Adding & Subtracting Rational Numbers (worksheet) Tuesday: Pg. 40 (#6): Include Claim, Evidence, and Commentary ASSESSMENT: Students have a formative assessment on Thursday, August 31st. No summative this week; there may be a summative next week!

FOCUS: This week, we will be working on operations with negative and positive integers and rational numbers. Students will be able to explain the difference between a rational number and an integer. They will conceptually understand how operations with negative numbers function in real life and in expressions and equations.

ASSIGNMENTS: Students will be assigned about twenty minutes of homework each night this week. These assignments are practice of skills they have learned in class.

ASSESSMENTS: Students have a formative assessment on Thursday, August 24th. No summative this week!
